Admissions
Visiting Arrangements
Visits to the school usually take place Monday through to Friday. Initially, we encourage just the parents to visit, enabling the Headteacher to get a better understanding about the needs of the child, achieved through talking to the parents, first-hand. Parents who are happy with the provision offered by Stepping Stones, are then invited to bring their child along on their second visit, giving the child an opportunity to meet staff and pupils. The child might then stay for a half-day session so they can feel what life is like on a day to day basis.
We can only admit a student after an assessment at the school and after careful study of any reports and of his/her statement of special educational need. Please call Neil Clark if you would like to discuss your child’s needs. Educational professionals involved in the assessment and placement of children with SEN are welcome to visit the school. The latest OFSTED report may be viewed on this website.
Funding
Pupils at Stepping Stones are funded through three different streams:
- Local Authority
We are working very closely with the Local Authority to engage them in funding of our pupils. If we are successful in the statementing process, the Local Authority will fund a place for your son or daughter. We can help and support you with the statementing process. Read more about how we are working with the local authority.
- Bursary scheme
This is somewhat different to a traditional bursary or scholarship since this involves funding for the education of your child as well as guidance on legal issues and administrative support, where relevant, such as in the case of dealing with the statementing process and statementing appeals.
- Private funding by parents
Parents can pay the school direct for the costs associated with placing a child at Stepping Stones. The school fees are current £14,500 per annum.
